Salvatore Truilo, age 94, of Boyton Beach, FL died on May 31, 2019. He was born on September 22, 1924 in Hoboken, NJ to Francis and Theresa (Bianco)Truilo. He grew up in the Depression working in his parents grocery store and other jobs to help support his family. He was drafted into the US Army in January 1943 along with his older brother Michael. He trained at Fort Dix in New Jersey and Fort Jackson in South Carolina before going overseas in 1944 as part of The 456th AAA Infantry Division as a rifleman. He crossed over to France on D-Day plus 10 and was part of Patton's third army fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. For his actions he was awarded a metal by General Patton.
After the war his family moved to Jersey City, NJ. He went to work for the Erie Railroad, (later the Erie Lackawanna and eventually New Jersey Transit) working in various jobs in Secaucus and Hoboken, NJ until he retired in 1986. He married Marie Palotta in 1956 and was happily married until her death in 2009. In 1986, they retired and moved to Boyton Beach, FL where he was active at St. Thomas More Catholic Church as an usher. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visiting their many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Michael and his sisters Carmella and Rose. He was the last family member of his generation and will be greatly missed. He will be entombed at the Boca Raton Mausoleum with his wife of 53 years.
Memorial gifts should be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
