Obituary

Sergio Bariletti was born on April 4 th 1928 in Hell's Kitchen, NY, the son of immigrant parents, Battista and Marietta Bariletti of Torino, Italy.  He served in the Korean War in the 45 th Infantry Division and was decorated with the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), UN Service Medal, and the Campaign Star.

The Bariletti family moved to Jackson Heights, Queens, NY while Sergio was in his teens and, besides going to school, he financially helped his family by shining shoes and delivering papers. In his later years, he worked as a printer.

In the army, Sergio had a friend named Benny Maggio.  Benny brought Sergio home to meet his family, including his sister, Madeline.  The rest, as they say, is history.  Sergio and Madeline were married in Regina Pacis church in 1953.  The couple had two sons and lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island before retiring to Florida.

Sergio was a man of deep faith.  When his grandson was deployed to Iraq, he gave him a cross to wear that Madeline had given him when he was deployed to Korea.  Sergio believed this cross protected him and brought him home safely from the war.

Sergio was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 66 years, Madeline (Dolly), a wonderful father to his sons, John and Michael (and their spouses, Thomas and Maria), and a devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren John Bariletti Jr., Anthony P. Bariletti, Michael Bariletti Jr. Gina Bariletti and three great-grandchildren, Viviana Bariletti, Giovanni Bariletti and Michael James Bariletti.  He was also the brother of Diane Wallace, Alfred Bariletti, and was predeceased by his sister, Lilliana.
