IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Marie
Turner
May 25, 1920 – August 24, 2017
Shirley Marie Turner was living her life infused with God's grace when she passed away on August 24, 2017, with her daughters and son in law by her side. She was born in Logan County, Ohio, on May 25, 1920, to George Guy and Mary Mae (Hudson) Foreman. She was the third of their six children (Sara Dell, Martha Bell, Mary Lou, George Guy and Herbert Elroy) and the last surviving child. Two sister-in- laws, Patrica (George) and Phyllis (Herbert) survive her, along with their children and childrens' children.
She married William Robert Turner on April 25, 1941. In February, 1942, she received her School of Nursing Degree from Springfield City Hospital and was certified by the State of Ohio State Nurses Board. After World War II, they had three daughters, Lois Jean (Dave Messer), Janis Lynn (Jack Boyd) and Sara Jane (Donald Lockhart). In 1959, the family moved to Delray Beach, Florida. Bill worked at Grimes Manufacturing while Shirley raised her girls. After the girls were grown, she returned to nursing and worked at Bethesda Memorial Hospital (third floor) for ten years. During her lifetime in Delray Beach, she was predeceased by her grandson, James Gregory Messer; daughter, Lois Jean; husband, William Robert; son-in-law, Jack Boyd; and son-in-law, Dave Messer.
She is survived by daughters Janis and Sara (a.k.a. Sally); grandchildren Jeffrey Messer and Kathryn (Katy) Messer Quigley; great grandchildren Haley Messer, Storm Leon, and Aaden Blanco; and great great grandchild Lilly Leon.
Earlier this year, she graciously agreed to move to Palm Coast to be near her daughters (Janis and Sara), who promised her a "kid a day club" A very special thank you to Home Sweet Home for making her last months so memorable, including her 97th birthday party. She never would've worn the tiara for just us!
The family remembers her most for the strength of her faith, great sense of humor and unconditional love.
Internment will be at Boynton Beach Memorial Park and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial gift to the Shirley Marie Turner Nursing Scholarship Fund at the University of South Florida established by her daughter Janis in 2008. Please make checks payable to the USF Foundation – Scholarship #270016 and mail to University of South Florida 4202 E. Fowler Avenue, ALC 100, Tampa, FL. 33620.
