Potter
November 24, 1946 – September 7, 2022
Thomas E. Potter passed away September 7, 2022 at Midland Medical center in midland Michigan . He was the eldest son of George and Shirley Fountain Potter (deceased) of Pickford Michigan. He graduated from Pickford HS in the class of 1964 and attended classes at LSSU. He spent four years active duty stationed in Turkey as a radar Communications Tech. After the service he moved to Ft Lauderdale Fla. He started his career working with a very prominent builder learning the trade and passed the General Contractors exam in 1970.He loved his work and went on to build many waterfront homes and restaurants. He had a loyal following and never wanted for work.
He met the love of his life, Janice 35 years ago. Janice was an engineering contractor so it was a match made in heaven. He was building a waterfront restaurant and he hired Janice to build the new parking lot. After which they were together 24/7.Tom retired in 2006 and joined Janice in building a commercial paving operation. He designed and built The Paving Lady Inc headquarter offices ,shop and yard on I95 in Boynton Beach, Fla. He and Janice worked many long hours together. The employees and clients were always treated like family. Clients still call him to this day for advice on projects.
He retired in 2016 and they bought a 43 ft motor home. They spent five years traveling across the USA and Canada for five years. They finally settled in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where Tom grew up. He bought a hundred year old cabin and was renovating when Tom became I'll and passed away.
Tom's real passion was Sailing. Hemtaught Janice to sail. They sailed monohulls and catamarans all over the world to places like Belize, Guatamala, Tahiti ,Bora Bora, the French West Indies, Grenada, the Bahamas, Thailand and the British Virgin Islands. Recently they took a trip with Charlie and Diane ( young potter) Williams to Williamsburg and Jamestown. Tom especially enjoyed the National Maritime Museum with its huge display of Americas Cup Racing Sailboats.
Tom had a great sense of humor and easily made friends everywhere they traveled.
Surviving tom is Dean and Sue Potter of Bedford Mass. Gary and Connie Potter of Sparta, Mich. Mrs Carole Collins of Ypsilanti, Mich. Susan and Heaney Demartino of Boca Raton Fl.
Special mention to Peter and Gaby Hogaboom and family. Gaby is like a daughter to Tom and Janice. She flew to Michigan when Tom got ill and monitored his care and interpreted all the medical procedures while consulting with the medical team from the U of Michigan. She oversaw his medical care to the end.
He also leaves behind a large group of very special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He loved each of you very much.
A Memorial Service will be held 11am Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Boynton Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach.
