IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas
Shockey
July 15, 1945 – October 20, 2024
In loving memory of Thomas P. Shockey. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Thomas Shockey, known as Tom, a beloved husband, brother, Uncle, brother-in-law and treasured friend on October 20, 2024, at his home in Florida.
Born on July 15, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio to Margaret Mary Stimpfle Shockey and Thomas N. Shockey. He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Escher Shockey; they were married on September 9, 1967, beginning a lifelong partnership of 57 years of marriage. Tom is also survived by his two sisters, Suzanne Shockey Ackerman of Ohio and Deborah Shockey of Florida.
Tom is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor Degree and a Master's Degree in Business Administration. He has been a lifelong Spartan fan and supporter of MSU. To all his MSU friends, GO GREEN!
Tom's legacy is marked by his zest for life as an amateur chef who enjoyed sharing a drink and making a bountiful table with friends and family. His passing leaves a profound void but his kindness and generosity will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
Tom's work life was in the Lansing, MI area. He started his professional career in 1967 at St Lawrence as a Respiratory Therapist where he worked for one year. Ingham Medical Center came calling where he started as a Respiratory Therapist and advanced upward to Director of the Department. While Tom was Director of Respiratory Care he was also involved in the Cardiac Program, the Pulmonary Physiology Program with the help of highly qualified respiratory therapist, physicians and other specialists. While at Ingham Medical Center Tom and others were responsible for a sleep disorder laboratory in Central Michigan. He became a Project Manager for the pulmonary medicine program and the newly formed oncology program. After the merger, Tom went on to Edward W Sparrow Hospital where he was responsible for clinical information system, especially the laboratory information system. Where he met another set of wonderful people, just like the Ingham Medical people, that are friends today. Tom retired in 2008.
Upon retirement, he moved to an HOA community in Florida. He helped the community by serving on a few committees that ultimately led to Tom being president of the Association for 8 years.
Per Tom's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Everyone is asked to make a toast to life with their family.
Those desiring to contribute to Tom's memory are encouraged to support the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice.
