Bohn, Wallace Henry, 98, went home to be with his Lord on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. Wally was a resident of Lakeside Village in Lantana, Florida, formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida and Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Wally moved to South Florida with his wife, Margaret, who predeceased him in death in 1984. His second wife, Janet Pomrantz Bohn, also predeceased him in death. He is survived by his three children; Bonnie (Loyal) Eldridge, Peggy Madonna, and Roger (Colleen) Bohn; his nine grandchildren; Trey (Becky) Eldridge, Peter (Michelle) Eldridge, Sally Eldridge, P.K. Madonna (Alan) Hatch, Katy Madonna (Winston) Singh, John (Becky) Madonna, Christine Madonna, Nicole Bohn (Aaron) Dragoo, and Heather Bohn and fourteen energetic and wonderful great-grandchildren.
Wally was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 26, 1909 to Emma and Julius Bohn. He graduated from Wayne State University with a master's degree in Accounting. He worked at Chrysler Automotive Company during the war and taught evening classes in accounting at Wayne for 14 years. He eventually became the owner of United Tool and Die Corporation.
He was an active member of Iroquois Avenue Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Detroit, always serving on the vestry, in the choir, on call committees and in any other capacities that required his help. While working with Lutheran Social Services, he was instrumental in the formation of retirement homes in Monroe and Frankenmuth, Michigan. His involvement continued as a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Boynton Beach, Florida.
His active lifestyle was not limited to family and church. He participated in many bowling and golf leagues during his lifetime. He spent his summers at Hiawatha Sportsman's Club in the upper peninsula of Michigan where he served on the board and headed up the golf committee. He played his last round of golf in his 97th year with all the game enthusiasm he showed for the game all his life. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing piano and organ and watching the Tigers, the Lions and golf on T.V. He was loved by his family and friends and will always be remembered as a gentleman.
A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Friday April 4, 2008 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2929 S. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, Florida. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church of Detroit, Ascension Lutheran Church of Boynton Beach, or Hiawatha Sportsman's Club of Engadine, Michigan.
