Obituary

Warren Louis Vodak, born February 5, 1929 to Louis and Celia Vodak in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 12, 2024.

Attended J. Sterling Morton High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Bittinger). Predeceased by wife Mary Louise and wife Suzanne.

Survived by his sons Mark (Janis), Lawrence and daughter Lisa Pianecki. Grandchildren Brett Vodak, Kyle Sager (Logan), William Vodak (Ellie) Michael Pianecki and Sara Julian (Thomas). The light of his life were his beautiful great-grandchildren, Maeve Julian, Keira Julian, Millie Sager (predeceased) and Mylah Sager.

Warren began his business career as a sales representative for the Pyrene Mfg. Co of Newark, NJ and London England. In 1956 he joined Walter Kidde & Company of Clifton NJ as a sales representative advancing to Regional Manager and National Sales Manager.

In 1965 he became President & CEO of S.R. Smith Co, Inc. of Cleveland, OH, a sales, service and installation company for fire suppression and fire alarm systems. He later acquired Vigilant Alarms of Cleveland, OH, Sound and Signal Co. of Akron, OH, Douglas Randall Corp of Pawcutuck, CT and Computrol Co of Ridgefield, CT. He then formed Kidde Automated Systems which became a major manufacturer of computer based fire, security and control systems serving many Fortune 500 companies, Federal and State facilities, Airports and high rise buildings in the United States, Europe and the Middle East with offices in major US cities.

He was President of N.A.F.E.D, an international trade organization, served on the Board of Directors of Fairview General Hospital (Cleveland Clinic), Fairview Enterprises, North Coast Health Ministry and Bethesda Hospital Foundation in Boynton Beach, Florida.

He was a life member of Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, OH, serving as President, Chairman of the Greens Committee and member of many other Club committees.

He was a member and resident of Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida, serving as President, Greens Committee Chairman, member of the Planning Committee, and other various community and club committees.

An avid golfer, he was a single digit handicapper playing on high school and college golf teams.

Warren and his wife, Kathleen lived in Boynton Beach, Florida and Westlake, Ohio. He will be remembered as an amazingly loving, supportive and kind neighbor, friend, community member and businessman. But mostly he will be remembered as the very best husband, father and grandfather there ever was. His memory will be eternally held within each family member. Private memorial and internment.
