Wayne Shaw passed away on September 11, 2023, at the age of 71. He is greatly missed by his surviving mother, Ruth, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. Wayne was born the son of Ruth and Ralph Shaw in Hartford, Connecticut, on August 27, 1952.

After graduating from high school, Wayne enlisted in the army. He served in the Vietnam War as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in 1971. Wayne was honorably discharged and was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Combat Infantry Medal, and  Parachutist Badge,

Wayne was unforgettable regardless of how long you may have known him. His stories and adventures are legendary.

After the army, Wayne studied briefly at the university and worked several jobs but had a great desire to see the world and he did just that. He chose an unconventional lifestyle and for the next fifty years of his life, he traveled the world.

When he was twenty-three he traveled overland from Italy to Singapore, made his way to  Australia, and repeated the journey again. making his way back through India, Afghanistan, and Iran. Along the way, he picked up an international teaching certificate which enabled him to teach English around the world. And he did so. As a result, Wayne spoke fluently six languages.

He traveled extensively through   South and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He lived for years at a time in Brazil, Germany, Denmark, Laos, Cambodia, and his beloved Thailand.

There never was nor will there ever be another like him. Rest in peace, my friend. You are truly loved.
