William F. Martin

Martin, William F., age 80, formerly of Elk Grove Village, IL passed away March 4, 2008. Bill was born to Henry and Mary Martin on January 25, 1928 in Oakland, CA. He was raised in Chicago. He graduated from Quincy College with a degree in Economics and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. He married Helen "Joy" McLean on January 20, 1951 and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Bill worked for Sears Roebuck for 32 years and an additional 8 years upon his retirement to Ocean Ridge, Florida with Joy in 1988. He was an avid golfer and loved his friends at Sherbrooke Country Club where we recently had a surprise 80th party for him. He was a diehard Cub fan and loved "Da Bears". In his retirement, he enjoyed keeping house for Joy, trying new recipes, and taking his pal, Divot for walks. He had a great sense of humor, was a loyal friend to all, and was most proud of his wife and their 10 children. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Martin and loving children Bill (Karen), Dan (Gisele), Marti (Mark), Chris, Terese (Bill), Babe, Hugh (Sutilak), Laura (Joe), and Peggy (Mike). Bill, "Poppa" is also survived by 14 grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am, Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 NE 4th Ave., Boynton Beach, FL 33435. Friends may visit with the family at church, beginning at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
