Obituary

William G. (Bill) Martin passed away peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2011.

Bill was born March, 8 1921. He graduated from NYU and joined the service. During World War II he was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery for saving his platoon.

After the war he landed a job as a radio announcer in Springfield, Mass. Then later became a staff announcer for CBS. He worked there for 30 years in both Radio and T.V. working with Guy Lombardo, Lowell Thomas, Walter Kronkite and announced for many famous people . He also announced for the famous T.V. show "Dallas".

Bill loved flying and swimming but most of all he loved his wife Leona and his three children Nancy, Michael and Stephen(Frances) . He also was a devoted grandfather to Charles (Anna) and Jared( Cait). Survived by his sister Joan. He was a chaplain for the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion and read for the Xavier Society for the Blind for almost 30 years.

He and Leona recently moved to Delray Beach, Florida.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at St. Thomas More Church. A burial will be held following the funeral mass at the South Florida National Cemetery.
